Project

001

Reimaging Digital Twin of

Knowledge Resource Centre as
Hogwarts Library

In this project, we aim to design and create the digital twin of the newly opened Knowledge Resource Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. Through this, we aim to explore the use of Mixed Reality technology in assisting the users in wayfinding in navigation, while enhancing the experience using storytelling and fantasy.

Understanding the problem

Problem

Though we have a digital catalogue to search for a book, students often find it difficult to find it at the right shelf.

Solution

Using Mixed Reality technology to assist the students and scholars to navigate and find their way to the right shelf. To make the experience more engaging, we incorporated elements from fantasy world inspired by Harry Potter.

Making Library Hogwarts

We began documenting the library and, fortunately, obtained the architectural plans, which allowed us to mark columns and establish the structural framework of the space. From there, we transformed the area into a Hogwarts-inspired setting by adding sculptures, skins, and vaults, recreating the magical atmosphere seen in the movies.

Testing

005

VR Testing of Digital Twin

We tested our Digital Twin prototype in a real-world environment and observed its performance. However, we noticed some depth inaccuracies in the prototype, which we attributed to the absence of a LiDAR sensor.

Lumos Bibliotheca

006

Book finding navigation

Lumos Bibliotheca is an AR spell that summons a magical guide, resembling a golden snitch, to help users find their selected book in a library. The snitch hovers in front of the user, leading them directly to the book's location with real-time navigation, lighting up the path as they walk. Once near, it projects key book details in the air—like a summary, reviews, and recommendations for related titles. Users can also command the snitch to "bookmark" or reserve books, making the process interactive and efficient, blending magic with modern tech.
